The Lexus RX 400h Hybrid can definitely hold its own against the competition. J.D. Power and Associates rated it among one of four SUVs for being recognized as part of the Automotive Environmental Index in 2006. This index rates the top thirty vehicles that are environmentally friendly and green. They also recognize the fuel-efficient hybrid as one of the top luxury vehicles for its Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study in 2005. With so many people being concerned about emissions, damage to the ozone layer, and global warming, the Lexus RX 400h Hybrid is a great choice for a hybrid SUV. This hybrid was actually rolled out in January 2004 at the North American International Auto Show a few months after the Ford Escape Hybrid was introduced. The Escape was so well received that it was a no-brainer that the Lexus RX 400h Hybrid would be received just as well. It was an immediate hit and the Escape suddenly found itself a competitor. Plus, Lexus is Toyota's high end product so fans of the vehicle expected it to be elegant and appealing. This SUV has been described as "handsome". It's been geared to attract executives who are environmentally savvy. It is a middle-sized luxury SUV hybrid that is sophisticated and definitely trying to get the attention of the upper class. The 2008 model of the Lexus RX 400h Hybrid has a few updates, namely chrome door handles, a new front grill, rear spoiler, and shiny 18 inch wheels. Hyundai releases first renderings of Equus

Hyundai has revealed the first official renderings of their upcoming flagship sedan, Equus, code-named 'VI'. The Equus is due to be officially unveiled next month in South Korea, the only country where it is expected to be sold.The renderings do not surprise, as the recent stream of spyshots has given us sufficient clues on how the Equus would shape up. According to Hyundai's Korean statement, the car will feature LED technology in the headlights - a Hyundai first - and incorporate LED taillights as well. Similar to Mercedes-Benz, the Equus will also feature Pre-Safe seatbelts. Other innovations include Vehicle Stability Management II and Lane Departure Warning System

The 2010 Ford Mustang looks leaner, although it actually gains a few pounds. It looks lower, although it's not. With headlights trimmed in black chrome (at least on the GT model) and a squatter, all-black grille, the look is sinister. Even the pony mounted to the center of the grille is finished in black chrome.

Hyundai releases i20 in India

Hyundai Motors India Limited has officially launched the Hyundai i20 in India today. The company calls it “Uber Cool” car that is available in three variants and sports a fuel-efficient Kappa engine. The i20 replaces the Getz hatchback.

The i20 is powered by a 80 ps 1.2L Kappa engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It packs a plethora of standard features, such as air conditioning, tilt/telescope steering wheel, front/rear power windows, cooled glove box, multi-information display, and 2 DIN CD/MP3 audio system. The top-range i20 features automatic climate control, steering mounted audio controls (first in segment), foldable key with keyless entry, 14-inch alloy wheels, and segment-first six airbags.

Kia releases gasoline Mohave

Kia Motors released the long-awaited gasoline variants of the Mohave SUV (Borrego in NA) today. Alongside the 3.0L VGT diesel, the Mohave is now available with a 274 horsepower 3.8L Lambda V6 or a more potent 340 horsepower 4.6L Tau V8.Gasoline Mohaves are priced on average 3.5 million Won (USD$2464) less than its diesel counterparts. With the 3.8L V6, Kia boasts a mileage rating of 8.6km/L, an equivalent of 20MPG. For the flagship 4.6L V8 models, Kia includes a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission. The 3.8L V6 models have a 0-60 MPH time of 8.5 seconds, while the 4.6L V8 models boast 7.4 seconds.

The BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS gets the same 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the Fortwo as an additional range extender - just like the Chevy Volt. The three-cylinder powerplant that has an output of 50 kW can recharge the 17.5-kWh lithium-ion battery by means of a similarly rated alternator. A range of up to 370 miles is possible on a single tank. The purely electrical, locally emission-free range is up to 120 miles.

All three BlueZERO models feature front-wheel drive and according to Merc, they all accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 11 seconds while their top speed is electronically limited to 93 mph in the interests of optimal range and energy efficiency.

Measuring 4.22 meters in length, 1.89 m in width and 1.59 m in height, the BlueZERO models can accommodate five passengers and a payload of around 450 kg (992) lbs with a luggage compartment capacity of over 500 liters.

Kia Soul

Kia Soul, slated to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October. The prototypes caught in these pictures are clad in Tomato Red and Clear White.

They also look to be the range-topping trims, as evident by the 18-inch alloys, chrome trims, and the diminutive rearview camera.

A Kia executive told us that the Soul Burner Concept wheels seen on the recent teaser video with the bouncing wheels, the trademark H-grille, and other sporty visual aids will be optional.

Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro unveiled ahead of Detroit

For those who still have sufficient cash-flow to purchase high end sports cars, the latest and greatest remains a must. In keeping with that reality, Audi is cranking up the juice on its flagship R8 sports car with the introduction of the R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro, which got an early reveal on the web today. The R8 shares some less visible bits with its corporate cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo, but until now the Lambo's V10 engine has remained exclusive to the Italian side of the family.

The R8 V10 will be the street going version of the R8 LMS that debuted a couple of weeks ago at the Essen Motor Show in Germany. It's 5.2L V10 is rated at 525 horsepower and 390.91 lb-ft of torque in European spec form. Those numbers fall a bit shy of the latest Gallardo LP560-4 even with the same displacement, which ensures that the Lamborghini can still command a price premium over the German machine. The U.S. version of the R8 V10 should remain pretty close to these numbers. That will be enough to push the 0-62 sprint under four seconds to 3.9 seconds. Unfortunately, the R8 is still saddled with the same craptastic 6-speed R-tronic as the only alternative to its proper manual gearbox. The R8 V10 now also inches closer to the magical 200 mph mark with a terminal velocity of 196 mph. The V10 version gets a new set of all-LED headlights for both high and low beams and the scoops on the side blades now bulge out to suck in the extra air needed to feed and cool the larger engine. A new rear diffuser also helps keep the rear end planted where a set of twin oval tailpipes replace the quad exhausts on the standard model. The R8 V10 will be available in Germany starting next spring with a base price of EUR 142,400 (approx $180,000) and will make its official debut in January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The SX4 Crossover is Suzuki’s compact five-door front- or all-wheel drive hatchback. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has the luxury of a Rolls-Royce, the performance of a Formula One car, and the drivability of a Honda. It’s a combination that leaves the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the Ferrari Enzo, and other wannabes in the dust Its 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine has four turbochargers and produces 740 kilowatts (1001 metric horsepower, or 987 hp). And you want torque? How does 1250 newton-meters sound? The car reaches 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds from a standing start, and 300 km/h in 16.7 seconds. It has a top speed of 408 km/h..

The structure is made of carbon fiber and aluminum. The brakes are carbon ceramic, and the exhaust system is titanium. There are 10 radiators to dissipate the engine’s heat. To keep the car on the ground when its winglike shape develops lift at high speeds, there are front and rear air diffusers and a massive rear spoiler that deploys electronically to generate a drag force of 0.6 times the force of gravity. Ride height varies with speed from 125 to 66 mm.

To go beyond 375 km/h (233 mph), the driver must stop the car, insert a special key, and go through a checklist (”Seatbelts, check; oil, check; last will and testament, check”). At top speed, the Veyron runs through a full tank of gas in 12 minutes, for a fuel economy measured in gallons per mile. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates it at 3.846kpl and 7.692kpl in normal city and highway cycles. In average for a kilometer Bugatti Veyron 16.4 needs Rs186. Presumably, though, mileage won’t be a factor in anyone’s purchase of this vehicle, ever. From 400 km/h, the car can stop in 10 seconds, covering more than a kilometer while doing so. In the rarefied world of the supercar, so-called volume production is measured in hundreds, sometimes just dozens of cars. By that standard, the 300 examples of the Veyron 16.4 that Bugatti Automobiles SAS, of Molsheim, France, expects to build—50 per year—qualify it as a volume car.

Bugatti built just 7000 cars between 1909 and 1956, from Grand Prix winners to the legendary Royale ultraluxury car. It seems the greatest of ironies that the storied French marque was revived by Volkswagen, parent company of Skoda and Audi. A pet project of former chairman Ferdinand PiÃ«ch, the development of the Veyron took eight years. Industry analysts don’t expect the company to recoup its investment. But what a glorious piece of engineering it is. Volkswagen should be proud. Perhaps even Ettore Bugatti, a man of immense flamboyance, ego, and engineering genius, would be pleased.

Lincoln Town Car

The Town Car is Lincoln’s full-size luxury sedan with traditional Lincoln luxury, V8 power, and rear-wheel drive. For 2003, the Lincoln flagship was redesigned with a more formal exterior and a new frame and suspension designed to improve ride and handling.

While it's no sports sedan, the more powerful new Town Car can be safely driven fast—thanks to a new frame, steering system and front suspension. There also are brake system upgrades and rear suspension improvements.

The front frame rails now are fully boxed sections of hydro-formed steel, which is lighter and stronger than the old frame's welded steel channels. The new rails are filled with structural foam in key locations to help control dissipation of crash energy through the frame for better offset collision performance.

Improved SteeringThe stiffer frame helps handling. So does the new rack-and-pinion steering, which replaces the older model's less precise recirculating ball steering gear. Steering effort is low at parking speeds and rises progressively as speed goes up.

The front suspension has a more robust design with such items as upgraded shock absorbers to improve handling.

A revised rear suspension also allows better handling and reduces transmission of road impacts into the car's structure. That suspension has a stabilizer bar, and load-leveling air springs maintain a constant ride height, regardless of vehicle load.

There is a more powerful 4-wheel anti-lock brake system with a new booster that provides a "panic assist" during fast stops.

More PowerHorsepower has been increased by 19 to 239 for lively acceleration, and the 4.6-liter overhead-camshaft V8 works with a responsive automatic transmission, although it's only a four-speed unit. A more modern 5-speed automatic would be appreciated.

Fuel economy is pretty good for such a big car that weighs 4,308 to 4,467 pounds: an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway.

The interior offers plenty of comfortable room for four big occupants, although the rear-drive system's driveline tunnel eats into room. The big trunk has a better shape and also a lower, much wider opening.

Traditional V8 SoundThe interior is quieter, although Lincoln has tuned the intake and exhaust systems to let the traditional sound of a powerful American V8 be heard during hard acceleration. The revised instrument panel looks a little too flashy and gauges are harder to read. At least the dash has a classy analog clock. Dashboard controls for the sound system and climate controls are too small, although there are steering-wheel-mounted speed control, climate and audio controls. Among other new items is a dual-zone climate control system. The new Town Car isn't as dashing as the 1930s American luxury cars, but can easily outperform the best of them.

Hyundai Tiburon

The F-450 Super Duty is the newest addition to Ford’s F-Series Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickups that also includes the F-250 Super Duty and the F-350 Super Duty. With towing capacity of more than 24,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 6,000 pounds, the F-450 Super Duty is built on its own unique chassis that incorporates a new rear leaf-spring suspension and the radius arm front suspension from the F-450 chassis cab. According to Ford, the F-450 Super Duty offers the tightest turning radius in its class to improve maneuverability when towing. The entire Super Duty line was updated for 2008 with a bold new exterior design and a new interior design.

The 2009 Ford F-450 adds the Harley-Davidson F-450 with a blue-flame paint scheme. Inside the flame design carries over to the gauges and custom perforated black leather with blue showing through covers the seats, door panels and center console. The 2009 Ford F-450 Super Duty also offers a Cabela’s FX4 package that features a unique two-tone paint scheme in five colors: Ebony, Oxford White, Forest Green Metallic, Royal Red Metallic and Silver Metallic with Sterling Gray Metallic lower body accents, running boards and wheel lip moldings. Custom mud flaps and Cabela’s badges are also included. Inside, the Cabela’s FX4 features cloth seats with Cabela’s logo or available Aniline leather seats with a two-tone embossed grain pattern. The center stack is finished with a dark Paldeo wood appliqué and all-weather floor mats include the Cabela’s logo. The 2009 F-450 Super Duty includes additional standard equipment for all trim levels. The XL adds standard air conditioning, Securilock and trailer tow mirrors, while XLT adds power heated trailer tow mirrors, privacy glass, integrated trailer brake controller and remote keyless entry. The FX4 adds PowerScope integrated power-fold power-telescoping mirrors, power seats, captain’s chairs and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The Lariat includes all the FX4 standard equipment plus the reverse camera system, power sliding rear window, heated seats, molded running boards and SYNC, Ford’s voice-activated hands-free communications and entertainment system.

Ford Five Hundred

The Five Hundred is Ford’s flagship four-door sedan which debuted for 2005, built on a new platform shared with the Freestyle crossover. Featuring what Ford calls Command Seating, which positions the driver and passengers higher than in a typical sedan, more like an SUV, the Five Hundred features energy-channeling frame and body structures for improved safety. The 2007 Ford Five Hundred adds several new packages, optional SIRIUS satellite radio and two new exterior colors. A new chrome package is available for SE and SEL with 18-inch eight-spoke chrome clad wheels and a chrome mesh grille. Other options for the SEL include a navigation system, heated seats, and three packages. An interior convenience package includes fog lights, in-dash 6-disc CD changer, dual electronic temperature control, automatic lights and an outside-temperature display; an interior power package features eight-way power driver seat and adjustable pedals; and a Limited convenience package includes memory adjustable pedals, a universal garage door opener, reverse sensing and a trunk cargo net. The Routan is Volkswagen’s all-new 7-passenger front-engine, front-wheel drive minivan. The 2009 Volkswagen Routan is Volkswagen’s first mainstream minivan, built in partnership with Chrysler and powered by the same engines as the Chrysler Town & Country. The xD is Scion’s subcompact hatchback that debuted at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show and replaced the xA in the Scion lineup for 2008. Toyota Sienna

The Sienna is Toyota’s popular minivan which replaced the innovative, but slow-selling Previa as a 1998 model. The first-generation Sienna was based on the Camry platform, and was in fact built on the very same assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky. The current second-generation Sienna was unveiled at the 2003 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in April, 2003.

The 2009 Toyota Sienna continues primarily unchanged with a few minor updates including a new overhead console, revised head restraint shape, 17-inch alloy wheels available for LE and two new exterior colors: Super White and Blizzard Pearl. The Sienna's seats now feel more upscale, with some decent cushioning and good support. Toyota officials insist that they spent more money on the new seats, just because they are so important for comfort.
